the room we got was spacious and beautifully designed, creating a cozy atmosphere. the staff were welcoming, especially during check-in, which brightened our arrival. we loved the rooftop pool and found the location perfect for exploring nearby attractions. with shops and restaurants just a short walk away, it made our weekend enjoyable.

I had brand-new spotless room with a safe, an iron, and an electronic key card. The bed was comfy, and the staff were very helpful. Booked the hotel for its decent location close enough to Gateway Shopping centre, Gateway Mall, Virgin Active, movies and accompanying restaurants and bars.

I had a pleasant stay at Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! by Marriott Durban Umhlanga Ridge, highlighted by the friendly service from the staff, especially Xolani and Ms. Nashani Govender. The room upgrade was a nice touch, and I enjoyed the clean accommodations and breakfast variety. The location is convenient, close to the Gateway Theatre of Shopping and other attractions, perfect for family bonding.

A Wonderful Stay in Umhlanga

The hotel exceeded my expectations with its excellent security and housekeeping, ensuring a comfortable experience. I particularly enjoyed the stylish on-site restaurant, which offered delicious local dishes like Durban bunny chows and unique gourmet milkshakes—definitely a highlight of my trip!

The initial confusion regarding parking availability, as it took a while to find a spot.

The location was convenient and absolutely perfect, just a pleasant stroll away from Chris Saunders Park. Apartment was decent size and brand-new with really comfortable king size bed.

The vibrant decor and modern design give it a chic and inviting atmosphere. Our two-level suite was spacious and featured stunning floor-to-ceiling windows. The on-site gym was well-equipped, and the expansive breakfast area offered a delicious array of options. I especially enjoyed the made-to-order items, which made for a good start to each day. The location is also great, with shops and restaurants nearby.

Can just recommend this hotel.

Great Stay for Business Trip

by Marriott Durban Umhlanga Ridge for a business trip, as it was chosen by my director. I must say, the hotel exceeded my expectations. The location is fantastic—right across from Gateway Mall, making it convenient to access restaurants, shopping, and even a few spas. The family room I stayed in was spacious and well-equipped, featuring amenities like a fridge and microwave, which made my stay all the more comfortable. The views from my balcony overlooking Gateway were a good touch. The service from staff was consistently excellent, and the Wi-Fi was strong enough to keep me connected for work. Breakfast offered a good selection, though I felt it could be a bit better compared to other places I’ve stayed. Special mention goes to the friendly security guards and cleaning staff who always greeted me with smiles.

Pool cleanliness needs improvement.

the check-in process was seamless, allowing me to quickly settle into my room. I did feel that the room could benefit from an interior luxury update, as some decor felt dated. Despite my excitement, the leaky shower and terrible instant coffee in the room were a letdown.

This wasn't a dealbreaker, but it made sleep difficult.

This place boasts a perfect location for exploring nearby restaurants and bars, just 25 km away from King Shaka International Airport, offering a spacious room with two bathrooms at a great value.
